Anger – Temporary Madness

Anger is the emotion to which we can all easily relate. The situation or reason does not have to be huge or serious for most persons to get upset. Someone may make a remark – something you consider offensive, disrespectful, or teasing.

You may balk at world events you consider unjust. Anger gets in the way of our relationships.

The prominent Stoic Seneca describes anger as “temporary madness”. He thought that while other emotions affect our judgment, anger acts on our sanity.

According to Seneca, while other vices gradually grow on you, you are suddenly thrown into anger without warning. Anger can grow from a simple thing to levels of stupendous proportion.

That is why we need to find a way to stop anger as soon as possible. Learn to handle anger from its early onset. You can apply the Stoic advice found in the Aeon (2017).
